Patrick Marleau Weekend

The San Jose Sharks and the City of San Jose, California celebrated the career and legacy of the legendary Partick Marleau with a flag-raising ceremony, a Sharks Legends Game, and the jersey retirement of Marleau's Number 12.

Patrick Marleau spent 21 years of his historic NHL career in San Jose. Marleau was drafted in the 1st Round (2nd Overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and is the Sharks Franchise Leader in the following categories:

Goals – 518

Power-play goals – 161

Shorthanded goals – 17

Game-winning goals – 101

Points – 1,102

Shots – 3,899

Games played – 1,551

Consecutive games played – 624

Patrick Marleau also holds the following franchise records:

Most seasons of 10+ goals scored – 20

Most seasons of 20+ goals scored – 14

Most seasons of 30+ goals scored – 7

Fastest to10 goals in franchise history - 6 games

Fastest to 30 goals in franchise history - 47 games

First to score 4 goals in a single period (3rd) - January 23, 2017, against Colorado

First (and only) to score 500 goals - February 2, 2017, against Vancouver

Patrick Marleau has also set National Hockey League records. Marleau became the youngest player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-game mark with one team (January 17, 2011) and (simultaneously) became the third-youngest player to play 1,000 career NHL games (31 years, 124 days). Patrick Marleau played his last season in the league and with the San Jose Sharks in 2020-21. Marleau played 56 games and surpassed hockey legend Gordie Howe's record for Most Games Played in the National Hockey League (1,768) on April 19, 2021. Marleau finished his playing career holding the record for the most NHL Regular Season Games Played with 1,779. In May 2022 at the SAP Center at San Jose, Patrick Marleau announced his retirement from the National Hockey League. The San Jose Sharks soon after announced that Patrick Marleau will become the first player in franchise history to have his jersey number raised to the rafters and set the date for February 25th, 2023.

On Thursday, February 23rd, 2023, the City of San Jose honored Marleau's historic jersey retirement with a flag-raising ceremony in Downtown San Jose at City Hall, where Mayor Matt Mahan also proclaimed February 25th, 2023 to be Patrick Marleau Day in San Jose.

The grand finale of Patrick Marleau Weekend was his jersey retirement ceremony. Prior to the event, the San Jose Sharks hosted a Patty Fest, featuring some of Marleau's favorite food, and the Teal Carpet event where Sharks Alumni arrived on the scene in front of fans and media before one of the biggest moments in Sharks franchise history.
